Togo: Dr. ADANOU Calls for African Unity and Regional Integration

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the University of Lomé hosted the book launch of renowned Togolese writer Dr. ADANOU Koudjo Jean Christophe. The event brought together high-level government officials, diplomats, military officers, and cultural figures for a moment of intellectual reflection on Africa’s future.

Dr. ADANOU used the occasion to deliver a compelling speech focused on the persistent barriers to intra-African socio-economic integration. He argued that these obstacles continue to hamper sustainable development across the continent and stressed the urgent need for a united African approach to economic growth and political stability.

The author paid tribute to legendary pan-African leaders such as Thomas Sankara, Kwame Nkrumah, Cheikh Anta Diop, Patrice Lumumba, Sylvanus Olympio, and Gnassingbé Eyadéma—figures who, in his view, laid the ideological foundation for African unity.

He also acknowledged the work of notable Togolese scholars including Prof. Robert Dussey, Prof. Batchana, Prof. Tsigbé, Prof. Adama Kpodar, Atchrimi, and Akué Adotévi, recognizing their contributions to national and continental development.

In closing, Dr. ADANOU praised the leadership of His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, President of the Council of Ministers of Togo, commending his commitment to regional stability and development.

Through this powerful speech, Dr. ADANOU emphasized that the future of Africa lies in unity, shared responsibility, and bold leadership. His words served as a reminder that culture, literature, and intellectual engagement have a vital role to play in shaping Africa’s path forward.
